Thinking about staying in Canada after graduation?
If you're an international student planning to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), there's a new requirement you need to be aware of.

What's New for PGWP Applicants?
Starting November 1, 2024, most PGWP applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English or French. This means you'll need to take a language test and meet specific benchmarks to be eligible.
Language Proficiency Requirements
Your required Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level depends on your program of study:
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral Degree Graduates:
CLB 7 in all four language areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
College or Non-Degree Program Graduates:
CLB 5 in all four language areas.
Note: These requirements apply to applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024.
Accepted Language Tests
You can prove your language proficiency by taking one of the following tests:
English:
IELTS General Training
CELPIP-General
PTE Core
French:
TEF Canada
TCF Canada
Your test results must be less than two years old at the time of your PGWP application.
Why This Matters
Demonstrating language proficiency ensures you're prepared to integrate into Canada's workforce and society. It also aligns with Canada's goal of attracting graduates who can contribute effectively to the economy.
Tips for Success
Plan Ahead: Schedule your language test early to ensure timely results.
Prepare Thoroughly: Utilize study materials and practice tests to meet the required CLB levels.
